TRIATHLON ACADEMY CAMPS

Get involved in our Triathlon Academy Camps

With support from the NT Institute of Sport, we host a range of Triathlon Academy Camps for ambitious junior athletes. These are four-day, live-in camps that run over the school holidays.

The camps are a holistic experience: we combine sport, personal development and leadership activities to create a structured, fun-filled program. This is an opportunity for your child to immerse themselves in sport for a few days, alongside friends and under the guidance of experienced coaches.

Who are the Triathlon Academy Camps for?

The camps are a high-level development opportunity for young aspiring athletes who are turning 12 – 16 years old in the year the camp is held.

Participants should already be taking part in regular training with an accredited coach and have established swimming, cycling, running and general sports skills.

Numbers are limited to 25 athletes, so we encourage you register early. Sign up here to receive information on the camps when registrations are open.

What’s involved?

Your child will take part in a structured program of activities designed to help them succeed as an athlete. They’ll learn about sports skills, resilience, confidence and sportsmanship.

They will:

  • participate in running, cycling, swimming or general sports skills development
  • take part in personal goal setting
  • sleep for at least 10 hours a day
  • live in a shared dormitory
  • help to prepare their meals and clean up
  • switch off their phones and gadgets
  • enjoy the company of fellow athletes and coaches.

Each camp varies slightly. Parents will receive a handbook outlining the program and full details.

When, where and how much are the camps?

Camps are held three times a year in the various locations across the Northern Territory. They run for four days over the school holidays.

Fees ranges from $350 to $500 per child, which includes accommodation, meals and all activities. Fees do not include transport to and from the venue

Who will look after my child?

Your child will be supervised at all times by accredited Triathlon Australia coaches who hold an Ochre card and First Aid certificates. Female and male coaches attend the camps and can support children with gender-specific concerns.

What is expected of my child on camp?

We ask that all athletes abide by the Athlete Code of Conduct.

We also expect your child to have basic life skills and be ready to help with cooking, washing up, wiping down benches, cleaning bathrooms, and keeping a tidy sleeping space. This all forms part of becoming a resilient, responsible athlete and allows coaches to focus on coaching.

Your child should also be prepared for a non-negotiable sleeping pattern, because sleep is the single most important factor for good sports performance. Bed time is strictly 8pm and we allow 9 hours’ sleep before the day starts. We also schedule a compulsory 1.5 to 2-hour nap every afternoon.

Can parents get involved?
